My bike came with Michelin Pro 3 Race tires and they feel awesome, but I don't race and these tires are rather expensive, so when they go bad I'll probably put on my $25 Hutchinson Fusion 2 tires that I have lying around.
I think it maybe the inflation is it. My 23c Vittoria Zaffarios max at 145 psi (but I go 125 ) and my 25c Panaracer max at 115 (i go 100)
Maybe rolling resistance too. My 25c are supposed to be thicker and more puncture resistant
