If I walk up to 20 big black gangbanging body-builders and start spouting racial epithets and get my ass beat, should I start whining about how they used violence and I was only using my mouth? Nobody has a right to be a asshats to anyone. Not motorists, not cyclists, not big black gangbanging body-builders. Violence and ass-hattery begets violence and ass-hattery. Respect begets respect.
