The police, are generally there to clean up the mess. Proactive crime deterrence by the police is usually a case of roll-by visibility, not super-cop work. The reason the CM's are out there, right or not, is their/our needs ar enot being met by law enforcement or the general populace of law abiding drivers. Now if it were a global truism then I'd give you the point and chalk it up to human nature. BUT cyclist DONOT have these problems in Europe or in Asia, so it rests squarely on the shoulders of the North Americans. Sometimes you have to be willing to sacrifice for what you believe in, that kind of attitude used to be celebrated in this part of the world. It's not that hard to stand up to motorist you know.
