I feel sympathy for the cyclist only to the point of one human disliking another's pain. That's it.

They brought it upon themselves by not following bicycle rules (single file and as rightmost as safe) and going extraordinarily slow.

Is the driver insane? Yeah. Did the cyclist deserve to get hit? Not really. But his actions at least partially caused it.
