Increasing Speed

Any good tips on increasing speed (in essence amount of distance traveled per time spent)? As I mentioned in the other thread today, I tend to run into many hilly situations where most situations going up hills turn into some form of mashing if I want to try to go faster than a snail. This really has cut down any degree of distance I've been able to do in any reasonable amount of time (my last ride was 9 miles in about 2 hrs with about 15 minutes of that spent mostly in other non-riding activities but with one rest period in it due to a super-steep hill I had to mash up for a while), and probably opportunities to train to increase my cadence where I could go faster on flatter terrain than typical (my record for a single ride is about 26 miles in 3 hrs).

I suppose the good thing is that I've gotten to the point of doing that distance about 99% of the time without necessarily having to rest after a year and a rest over winter, so there's some progress somewhere.

Maybe the question is "how do you spin at a high cadence and be successful when a large degree of force is required behind it?" Maybe the question that needs answered is something different? I don't know, but hopefully I would like to get to cover more distance in a practical time. Any thoughts?

Edit: I hit a online mapping tool and mapped the last ride I went on. According to it, it was 14850 meters, with a total climb of 75.5 meters and total descent of 74.6 meters. But it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about with the climbing - it's not a flat thing by any stretch.
