Last year my pace was about a 15 mph average and I needed a steep drop or a tailwind to get above 20 mph for more than a half mile.

With a higher cadence I'm averaging about 17 mph and staying above 20 mph on almost any flat as long as the head or side winds are below 5 mph.

Its a lot of fun to maintain the higher speeds and covering ground rapidly. I'm also more aware of body position, gear selection and changes in the terrain or wind. It's just a more fulfilling experience.
