Barbour makes traditional outdoor wear.

Barbour's "Brewster Breeks."

Also available in stretch black moleskin. Rawr.

I've also often wondered about equestrian riding clothes (sans knee/thigh pads) as cycling gear.

Most notably, I keep seeing these "Polo Riding Jeans" made by Jaipur.

Note the features:

"The look of Jeans ...the performance of Breeches!" The Jaipur Polo Company is now offering these "first of their kind" jean-riding breeches.

  • Fabric: 92%Cotton ...jean quality... with 8% Lycra ...offers a stretch quality that provides a great fit, and excellent in-saddle performance
  • No "inside seam" ...smooth comfortable riding
  • Jean Styling: jean-style front and back pockets - quality front zipper, and jean-style belt loops
  • Knee Patch Option: with or without knee patches (Patches are cut with the same soft jean material as the pant. It starts at the bottom of the leg and tapers to an end over the knee. Very comfortable.)
  • Men's Sizes: 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40
  • Colors: Black or White
Seems like that w/o the knee patches these would be better than the regular old corduroys/dungarees (or just plain old jeans) that I typically ride in (when not riding for riding's sake--commuting, going out, etc)

I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger on a pair of these. Perhaps a pair of the black ones for riding my Triumph around. If my neighbors think I'm eccentric now, they ain't seen nothing yet.
