okay so it's a Friday and I never actually respond to jackholes like this, but I did. I sent him an email. Not that he cares; he's probably printing them and masturbating.

Just wanted to drop a quick note and say that you’re way off-base and wrong. Not to mention you admit to being a poor driver and think the right resolution is to remove others from the road? Huh?

Bicycles are vehicles. Vehicles use the road. Get over it. Keep in mind bikes were on roads before cars were invented. So really, what mode of transportation were the roads built for then?

Not that I’m a nit-picker, but I’ll waste my time with a couple items in your “article:”

“...Since many bicyclists make turns without using hand signals and ride too close to other vehicles when there is no designated bike path.”

Every driver in every automobile you’ve ever seen uses their turn signals? You’ve never tailgated? Where is your logic here?

“Instead, I had to speed ahead and veer away from the fast-approaching rear end of the car in front of me, just barely making it into the right lane.”

Instead you chose to make a dangerous maneuver putting not only the cyclist, but you and other drivers at risk. Smart? No. The cyclist’s fault? No. Would it be different had the cyclist not been there? Probably not, as you admit to being a pretty poor driver. Maybe it’s you that shouldn’t be on the road.

“Maybe in your head you are actually driving a car. Maybe that’s why you believe you should be behind a pickup truck and in front of 15 other cars trying to pass you.”

Maybe that’s obeying the law, something you might actually learn something from. I mean, college is about learning, right? At least it was when I went.

“And those are the headlights of my black 2001 Saturn SC2 bearing down on you.”

And you’ve identified yourself as a poor driver and a threat to others on the road, cyclist or otherwise. Congrats.

I’m sure you will get a number of emails, and I’m sure part of your intent is to stir up emotion (hey, that’s what journalism is about right, stirring emotion, even if it makes you look like a jackass?), but I sincerely hope you don’t run a cyclist over. You’ll find out that it’s your fault. Oh wait, that’s something you’ve never known, accountability. Maybe it will take hitting someone to learn that. I hope not.
