Bikes: a dozen or more at any given time. currently: pro concept pro, badd 24", hutch trickstar, looptail pk ripper, reynolds quad, 82 hutch pro racer, yamaha "a" model, matthews monoshock, and several more.
powder coat is a baked on finish. you give the part to be powder coated a electric charge and then give the powder the opposite charge. then the part is sprayed with the now attracted powder. then the part is baked in an oven. the resulting finish is more like having a pyrex or porcelain coating on your part. paint is just not that scratch resistant in most cases. some paints have been developed that are comparable, but from what i hear, they are quite expensive compared to powder coat.
