You can do all of this (besides the 4x4 and clearance, which only apply to certain SUVs anyway) with a minivan. Some people get SUVs simply because they find them attractive, or because they believe (subconsciously or otherwise) that SUVs project strength and wealth. They're certainly marketed that way.
