Good job on getting back out there.
Honestly, I do both. I have some standard routes of 10, 12, 17 and 20 miles that I pull out when I need a quick weekday ride. These are all routes that are useful for working on one thing or another, but if these were all that I did, I would have probably quit cycling. I love doing new rides and trying different routes and combinations. It is one of things that keeps cycling fun for me.
