Sturdying up 2004 Allez
Heres the deal: I got a 2004 specialized allez triple (black). Its got a carbon fork and (if I remember correctly) 23c tires, with 28 and 32 spoked wheels. What Id like to do with it is, when the weather gets warmer, take it on some self contained tours (upstate New York). My concern now is that when it comes time to go off road and find a campsite, my bike wont be able to handle it. So what Id like to do is swap the carbon fork for a steel one, and get some sturdier wheels (perhaps 36 spoked, with wider, maybe cyclocross tires). My question to you guys is, is what I described practical? Do I need these up grades for what I want to do? Can I fit wider tires on my frame? And after this is all said and done, will my bike be able to handle all this? Also any other words of wisdom u guys got will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
