Yeah, I'd say that was one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen on BF. I'm 50 and I'm riding classic steel, but I see nothing wrong with good equipment either. I've been riding with guys that are older than me, and they look fine on new equipment. I can't imagine handicapping myself on a 200k ride just for appearances. In fact, I can barely manage to do anything just for appearances.
