Choosing my first clipless pedals and I noticed many roadies choose to use SPD style pedals. Any reason for that? What style would you suggest for a first time user switching from toe clips?

I ride 10-30 mile rides, 4-5 times/week on paved road, dry weather with a road bike (Scattante Race). Thanks all!
