Just for fun, on my approach I decided to "tch-tch" him like calling a horse. He heard that, saw me, and scrambled back across the road whence he came.

Right in front of me. I hit my brakes, and probably got with a metre of him. Close call. And it was my first time seeing a beaver in real life!
