Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

I had a persistent creaking on the drive side for a long time. Tightened the cranks. No joy. Remounted the cranks. No joy. Tightened the pedals. No joy. Remounted the pedals. No joy. I finally figured it out:



A crack had been slowly propagating through the pedal cage; when it failed, the noise stopped.
