I agree with what htarvr said although I do it by sight and not sound but whatever.

The important thing here is the L and H adjustments have nothing to do with the shifting performance, only set limits on how far the derailleur can travel. Until you get used to things, it is better to do that without the cable even attached so you don't get distracted with cable tension.
