uh in case you REALLY care and aren't just curious about my plastic weirdness, PVC has been shown a carcinogen, but don't worry too much about that unless you work in a PVC plant. What sucks is that your pipes are bad, sure, but the soft things, like the bag liner of your messenger bag are soft because of plasticizers added to PVC, these are leeching into you and everything around you. Sure that's lame, but PVC is one of the most widely produced materials in the world, and its manufacture creates an inordinate amount of dioxins as a by product. So even the pipes that are used everywhere, while releasing very little poison in construction, release a ton when it is made.

and no one recycles the stuff, so where does it all go?
