The toshi stuff was pretty soft and thin, certainly would be on the thin side for a leather jacket. However, along the edges, it was folded over and stitched, so the holes went through two layers of leather.

I'd say give it a try. The width of the toshi stuff was such that when wrapped around the bar with no tenstion, there was about a 1/8 of an inch gap or so to take up w/tension.
