But 700 X 28 might, which are reasonable tires for most uses. Or look for a touring or cyclocross or hybrid frameset that you can swap the parts onto from the Trek. Then you can probably use 700 X 35 and fenders.
That's what I think too.
I've got 105 brakes on my retro grouch bike. To get a 700 x 28 tire to squeeze between the brake pads I have to, in addition to opening the quick release, set up the cable tension a little on the low side.
