VI is "variability index", and is the result of NP divided by AP.
1.0 means NP and AP are equal, there was no "variability" in your ride.
>1.0 means that NP was higher than AP (which is normal), and just means that there was a lot of off-then-on in your ride. at least that's how i understand it.
