Would taking frederick rd to old columbia pike to montgomery to 108 been a little better? sure you'd have to climb out of ellicot city coming home but a little safer than rt 1.
That area of Columbia is hard to get to. My climbing gym is on Columbia Gateway. I think taking part of your suggestion and heading south on Dobbin. It's actually a nice route. Rt 175 is direct though
