I rode my age!!!!

Well about a week ago a member here poste he did but took him several rides due to time and work and such, and that made me think why couldn't I do it.

As the week went along I kept saying Saturday was the day, why not? So Saturday I started out and had a semi-route planned in my head. I loaded up with two full bottles of liquid and a few fruit and nut bars. I got to the halway mark and noticed my feet were starting to get pretty sore and they never have before. I stopped for a bit and took off shoes and socks and let the feet relax and then put shoes back on without socks and headed back. I was doing pretty good but two bottles of water is not enough and found a yeard sale and stopped and the kind women there gave me some water and I kept on grinding away. Feet got sore again and I stopped once more for relief and put socks back on and started out once more. Again I needed water and found a church sale going on and bought two bottles of water for 5 bucks but it was for the church so I was happy about that. About ten miles to go and I started to get pretty tired and feet started to get sore again but I went about 5 more miles before I rested for a few minutes and then on to home for a total of 57.28 in 3 hours 28 minutes of riding time with a total of 4 hours total time, give or take a few minutes. Average speed was 16.4. I am pertty jacked I did it!! I am 56 btw.

I may need to think about new shoes and clipless pedals as I have Crank Brothers Candy's and MTB shoes I may go Road shoe and pedal and see if that helps. It was in the mid to high 80's yesterday too so it could have been the heat I dunno.

I do know you really need lots of liquids more than I would have thought. There were a couple of sorta big hills that I had gone up before but not with the milage I had going so I used the small chainring in front going up those and that made them much easier but a lot slower.( no big deal though)
All in all I was very happy with the way it went. Oh one more thing...3 hours in the sun you need sunblock!! Got a little burned but not too bad, I will and should have been using it anyway.
