Question on machined side walls.

I kinda or scratched the hell out of my dp18 front wheels side wall on friday night. Here's what happened it's the end of the semester here at school so i took my bike back home last weekend. I went to my buddies house for a bonfire so i decided to ride my bike over since he only lives across the main road through my town. I forgot my light up at school so i figure i would be fine since its not far at all. Well on the way home i have to climb a very steep hill to get back to my house which i usually do fine when i have a light so the drunk drivers don't hit me going around the 90* turn. So I decide to take the sidewalk. About 20 feet from the top of the side walk is an inch or two high piece of sidewalk. Well i didn't pull up to get my front wheel over and somehow ended up with my front wheel in the grass with the braking surface scratching up against the coarse sidewalk edge. I rode down the hill to my house and a car was coming up so used the brake to slow down a bit and could feel it in the brake. My question is, is there a possible way to level it out safely without weakening the rim? I don't want to take a file to it without knowing what it would do to it. Thanks a head of time.
