So, I have a friend that has an Ultegra 8 spd. Shifter. HE says he would give it to me but the problem is that I have a bike with all sora parts, it is a 24 spd bike with triple in the front and 8 in the back.

Is it possible to just change the right shifter to the 8 spd, Ultegra shifter with my 8spd sora rear derailleur? Would there be a problem? do i need to get a new derailleur or will it be ok? Like i need to know any thing that could be a problem
