I haven't even been up to Great Falls on it before (usually ride the Capital Crescent on my road bike instead). I went with a bunch of others to see off a friend as she left for a cross-country year-long bike tour:

That one with the Schwinn was the remnants of the surge from Hurricane Isabel way back in '03. We had the day off from work, so I took the bike out (back then, it was my only bike) and rode around town to get some pics of the aftermath.

We are planning a trip this fall to ride the whole thing, and stay at some B&Bs on the way.
Yup, a cross bike would do fine. I wanted a more plush ride than I'd get on a rigid bike, and since it was only about 15 miles each way (not counting the 3-4 it took to ride to mile marker 0), I figured I could put up with the extra weight and fewer hand positions of the Rush. And besides, it was still good for over 20 mph on the cruise back to Georgetown..
