When I purchased my Roubaix, I insisted I wanted one w/ a triple - the salesperson tried to convince me I wouldn't need it, that if I wasn't already strong, I'd grow stronger.

I over-ruled him and got my triple, and for the first two weeks I used the granny gear for some super-steep slopes. After which, as I grew ever stronger, I've never bothered to use the granny gear again. Keep your double and keep riding and soon enough you'll climb like a mountain goat.
