Dude, getting a bike that's too big is like getting a suit or a pair of shoes that's too big. There's only so much you can do to get it to fit.

The bottom line is that you bought a bike that doesn't fit you. It doesn't matter how free or almost free a bike is. If it doesn't fit it doesn't fit.

I'd work on trading the frame if possible.
