Amateur Review - Euro-Asia Campy hoods

The outrageous prices for Campagnolo brake lever hoods have many of us looking for lower cost alternatives. Modolo anatomic hoods are a good fit but they seem to be getting expensive as well.

I decided to try the Euro-Asia importer version since they were the cheapest I could find (17.95 at loosescrews.com). I figured I would post pictures here so anyone else considering these hoods can have a better idea of what to expect.

Here is what I found so far

- The "gum" color is actually brown. I photographed them next to these Shimano hoods to show the difference.

- The fit is not great. They fit well around the front edge but don't seem to cover the back of the lever body. That means you can't use the Dobbins bar tape method and get a seamless transition.

- The mold line seems to bug people, but my Campy hoods do have one too. This mold line is only higher, and slightly larger.

- The rubber seems to be thick and durable, it was very hard to coax to hoods onto the back of the lever bodys using palmolive.

I think they are just ok for the price. I still feel slightly dissapointed mostly because of the fit, plus 23.00 (shipped) is not exactly a steal for rubber hoods.

Here is the stock photo.
