I agree with the above advice.
Back in 1982, I was 21 years old, riding my bike to work in Manhattan. The next moment, I woke up in the hospital with a doctor talking to me. He said I had been hit on my bike by a car, head-on.
I still don't remember the impact or the ambulance ride, and I never will. The woman who hit me got out of the car, put her hands on her head, and just screamed. A doctor happened to drive on his way to the hospital. He called for the ambulance, though I wonder how, as cell phones didn't exist then. He was the same doctor who woke me up and told me the story.
Believe it or not, the insurance company didn't pay. My uncle served as a lawyer for me, for free. We went to arbitration, which resulted in a ruling that they pay. They still never paid, though I hadn't lost much, and I wasn't suing for pain and suffering. I just wanted my lost wages back.
