I can believe that - it wasn't this bad in decades past, however...

Actually, today is my sort-of second birthday - on 5/4/80, our group was on a long ride in Brevard County (Cocoa Beach) when we were struck from behind by a motorist going about 45 or so (we never found out if he fell asleep or was distracted by his dog)...

Two of our group did not survive and three others were injured - myself and one of my club friends from Miami were unhurt - physically, anyway...

It's been 29 years and usually remember the anniversary, but actually did forget it last year, the reality being that almost 3 decades have gone by...

What was significant too was the fact that I was in the rear and just 30 seconds before the accident had moved to the front of the group to join my Miami friend, who was off the front and riding alone at the time. Had I not done that, I likely would not be sitting here at this moment - similar to the person who misses the flight that goes down, or the person who goes inside the house just before the bolt of lightning strikes - it wasn't our time - yet...

Thankfully time does heal all wounds, and still enjoy the bicycle, for which I'm thankful to God for having been given such a nice gift as the gift of being a cyclist...
