Best BD Option - Commuter SS for NY?
I'd like a commuter single speed for NYC, the kind of thing I can take to Trader Joe's, lock up, and not worry about while I wait in line for an hour to checkout. I've never done fixed gear, but something tells me I'd like it so it'd be nice to have fixed/freewheel option.
Key considerations:
1. Cheap.
2. Relaxed. Just bought my girlfriend a Soho S and that thing is sooooo comfortable, I suspect due to the geometry. There's a good chance I'll add straight handlebars / saw the included ones.
3. Flexible. A decent fixed/freewheel option.
4. NYC. Tough on tires.
5. I'm fairly handy and look forward to assembly / minor customizations (ie, the bike doesn't have to be perfect at the outset, bikeisland can be my friend).
I've read around, I think I've narrowed it to:
A. Kilo TT
B. Kilo WT (someday, if I can wait 2 months)
C. Dawes SST
Please weigh in with any thoughts on which bike to go for, sizing considerations, even color choice that's least likely to get stolen.
Cheers,
Duder
