We winter in Florida near Ocala (Inverness).
A few observations. Compared to Illinois people drive fast. Many more very old people on the road such as me (67). Not all of them see well or hear well. Lots of medical conditions.
Roads are very loaded with traffic and people drive 70++MPH in 55 zone on FL41 N for instance.
Biking on the road in Orlando, Jacksonville, Ocala, Miami, Ft Myers is not fun. Naples may be better but it is still challenging. I did it. No thank you. Too much traffic.
So we bike on Bike Paths. Lucky has it that Florida has a few nice Bike Paths. One is fabulous through Inverness. It is 46 miles long. There are a few more Bike Trails in that area. Little chance of a car accident there. There are crossings but no more dangerous then up North.
