One reason the Smart is popular here in the UK (vs. things like the Yaris) is that they fit almost everywhere. I often see them parked nose - in, occupying a tiny space amoung a long line of parallel parked cars. Can't do that in almost any other car.

I agree though, they don't make sense for anywhere other than really congested urban environments.
