It's true that no mater what you do, a certain type of driver is going to do something stupid. I would guess that just about every driver in your list saw you. However, I don't see how riding in the center of the travel lane helps. In MD it is illegal to ride in the center of the lane unless there is some sort of obstical in the right portion of the lane. A cyclist must ride 'As far to the right as practicable'. Personally, I find riding on the right side of the right hand car tire mark to be the safest. I would never consider riding in the gutter and since the car tires do not clean the center of the lane, it is full of oil. I have found that people that are going to cut it close when passing have seen you, but just are not going to yield. Or, they have been waiting behind a while and get impatient.
I would think with the cement truck incident, had you been off to the right, the truck may have passed prior to the blind curv.
I find that riding dead center of a travel lane just pisses motorists off... setting up a bad situation for the next cyclist they encounter.
