I have rollers but if I had to go back and chose again I'd probably go with a trainer or save up enough for rollers with adjustable resistance. As is, my rollers are really only good for 2x20 intervals and that is using the 50x12 on my road bike. And yes, you can do things like stuffing a towel under a drum but that takes away some of the roller feel that makes rollers desirable in the first place.
