Used is used. Some take care of their stuff and some don't. It doesn't matter what kind of material the bike's made of. There is inherent risk in buying anything used.

Better advice would be to consider the source of the used gear. A 50 year old track racer who used the bike for 3 years on the track was probably more gentle with the bike than a 19 year trickstar who used it for 3 months on the street.
How the bike was taken care of does matter but old used aluminum frames are some times super flexy and if he's gonna use it for the track he's better of getting something that won't have that problem like a titanium frame
