Let's not be too hard on those making the attempt, and offer up some encouragement. We all started somewhere. I know when I started getting into cycling I was as big an idiot as there ever was, including getting out on a "long" ride 10-15 miles away from home and getting a flat. No tube, no pump, no patch kit.... nada.... at least 3 or 4 miles from the nearest bike shop. A nice lady stopped, and offered assistance (leaving major bruises on my male ego). My education had begun. Pass along your wisdom (if they'll listen) and by the end of the summer, there'll be another handful of year-round commuters to ride/suffer with.

That said, I will admit, every year I am amused at what I see.
