MUPS are not a bicycle Utopia. Bikes, pedestrians, skaters and dogs are a very dangerous mix. Plus, where the MUP crosses the road, the cyclist is in far greater danger of being hit by a car than if they were already on the road. For a leisurely afternoon ride of 2 miles at 8 mph, MUPS are okay if they are not crowded, but for commuting or more intense exercise, the road is the better (and often safer) option for bikes.
