megavovan - 88 gear inches is a typical modern track gearing but for road work (where there are variable conditions) a gearing of around 67 is preferable.

The strongest riders of the modern era run 90-92 gear inches on the track.

Please note the the numerous gearing threads where folks with new track bikes are gearing them down as they find 88 gear inches is far to steep and where the experienced riders are suggesting gearings of 70 gear inches as an all round gear.
