Tying and soldering spokes is sort of like shaving your legs and drilling and milling parts. It may have limited or no practical effect but it is really, really cool. Of course I do all three

I tied and soldered the spokes on my BMX Stingray when I was a kid because that's what the off-road motorcycle racers were doing. I tie & solder my vintage track bikes now cuz it's cool and period correct.
