Cross or interrupter levers are a wonderful invention and I do not see them fading away but rather, becoming more and more popular... hard core roadies may not need or want them but for commuters, tourers, and those who ride cyclo-cross they are great additions to the bike and allow for excellent braking from the top of the bars.
