John I believe you meant Spidel; Speidel was a watch-band.

I can see wanting to keep a frame period-correct for nutted calipers but on the other hand I've successfully drilled out several fork crowns and brake bridges to allow the use of recessed calipers on older frames; it's not always rank heresy.
