Advise needed for hand build wheels...

Hallo forum,

Simple question, I hope:

I normally use 32-spoke classis wheels with Ultegra hubs, Sapim "Race" spokes and Mavic Open Pro rims. I use these wheels with no problems at all despite my weight of 102 kg. I ride at speed but I am no racer and I don’t do races or competition.

Now for my question:

Would the following set be just as strong or stronger: 28-spoke wheels with Dura-Ace hubs, Sapim "Strong" spokes and Corima Aero carbon rims (45mm high).

I choose Sapim "Strong" instead of "Race" spokes because of their intended use for trekking.

“Race” spokes test results:
Fatigue test / wheel revolutions : 980.000
Strength on middle section: 1350N/mm˛

”Strong” spokes test results:
Fatigue test / wheel revolutions : 1.600.000
Strength on middle section : 1400N/mm˛

Hence my choice for Sapim “Strong” spokes for the new wheels: lesser but stronger spokes. Does this make sense?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Timo
