I use Clif Shot Bloks on rides along with 1 bottle of water and one with a sports drink and I also put drops of Elete (electrolytes) into both bottles.
But I think you waited way too long to start your intake 2 hours into the ride is kind of late.
I make sure I eat good the night before, then that morning when I take off I eat one Clif Shot Blok after that I eat one every 20min and take in some water or sports drink or before I hit a big hill.
