They won't help you on hills. All they will do is provide an additional hand position.

Dahons are pretty much one size fits all. Unfortunately, unless you're willing to do things that compromise the fold, that means that if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit....
I have the bar and set up horizontal. My understanding is that this will give me the most length to stretch out.
My Dahon is a 2007 model and so has adjustable height handlebar and telescoping handlebar. I will test the folding feature next week when I travel with it to Chicago.
I was able to test the fold today. After I opened up both the quick releases on the handlebar I was able to fold it up properly.
