The only way to truly protect yourself from harm is avoidance, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to guarantee survival in a dispute. Humans typically use tools, in this case cars and bikes. Which tool can win in an unregulated fight? Unregulated as in no immediate/present legal regulators, cops and lawyers.

Video only serves as proof after disputes. We have already heard that this proof is regulated in itself to equalize car drivers' rights as well as private property holders' rights in court (what is said by individuals is typically interpreted as private intellectual property by law, therefore it might or might not be allowed in court). Law is by no means always in-line with survival assistance and/or common sense. In theory, it is supposed to be, but in reality it is not.

Unfortunately, it is hard to avoid cars on the road. Unfortunately, it is impossible to co-exist with extremists that are allowed to drive. There is nothing like giving a drivers license to a proven perennially angry male without requiring him to pass a psychological profiling test after his first run in with the law. The fact of the matter is, cars CAN be used as lethal weapons, but the legal system still views them as tools for transportation. Because of the power imbalances between cars/drivers and bikes/bikers, drivers really have little to fear. I've never heard of an organism that possesses competitive advantages simply yielding to organisms that lack competitive advantages in nature. The key is closing the power imbalance that is facilitated by the use, or lack of use, of certain tools.

If the courts treated hit-and-runs like attempted murders, psychotic screams of "Get off the road you fuc*king fa*g!" as real threats to life (not free speech), acceptance of raw uncensored and unregulated audio/video as legally permissible evidence, and heavy penalties that are cheap for legal systems to administer, I'm sure public road ways would be a lot safer for bikers.

I think it is in bikers' best interest to master politics and persuasion in order to out wit crazy and/or ignorant people who are trapped in an auto-centric world view who don't want you on the road. This includes industrial interests who don't want you there either as well as the lawyers, public bureaucrats, and politicians they own. The fact of the matter is, a lot of people don't want us there period. We move to slowly in a fast paced culture. Slowing down has its merits, but that's another thread.

I'm not trying to discount what the OP wrote, its important too. Think of my words as an add-on.
