Next was the paint and decals. I was unable to find reproduction decals for the bike anywhere so I contacted JRrestore to have a new set made. I had to measure up every decal and send detailed pictures to JR, for his database didn't have any Univega artwork.

While JR got to work on the decals, the frame made it's way to Bilenky's in Philadelphia for a repaint and some additions.

The frame originally was built for 27" wheels. I have no objection to 27" wheels but tire sizes are limited and I wanted a larger selection. So, I asked Steve (Bilenky) to move the cantilever bosses down 4 mm to ensure proper operation with the new 700c wheels I planned to use. Next, I requested down tube shifter bosses be added. The index shifters I purchased were braze on mount and I like the cleaner look as opposed to clamp shifter sets. Next came a hole drilled in the BB for drainage. I didn't like the water collecting in there at all. At least if it happens again it has a way out. Framesaver and a repaint completed the work.

The total time was about five weeks. All the while, the parts pile got bigger.

Next post - Assembly and some problems.
