I'm not sure as to what's meant by the comment that a bike lane ought not to be on the same side as turning traffic. Won't traffic turn one way, then (a block later) the other, then the other, ...? Every other block (at least in the city), a bike lane will be cut into by cars. A good way to address this seems to be the implementation of separate bicycle traffic signals, but the problem seems innate in the way city roads work.
Ugh...some car-jerk was standing in the bike-lane near me the other day (I was on foot; I don't yet own a bike). Infuriating...
