Closetbiker seems to have found a medical professional who knows his salt, but sadly, my experience is that medical professionals who TREAT head trauma are clueless about bicycle safety. My post is exactly on point because I had that same stupid conversation with doctors and nurses INCLUDING the trauma surgeon. It was as if their ears were stuffed up. I'll bet if I went back and asked I would have been chaulked up as a cyclist who was saved from a brain injury by wearing a helmet. Asking how paste your favorite class of experts is here feel about bicycle helmet use is useless unless that class of experts has been studying the issue. There is just too much pre-conceived notion about helmet safety out there to trust an unstudied opinion.
